Nurses relax on sofas for tea break

Harcourt House

The hand-coloured postcard below is of the nurses home at Harcourt House, Salisbury. Stamped and dated 1907, this home was the precursor to the purpose built Victoria Nurses home established at the turn of the 20th Century. It was likely the establishment that Edith Joanna Bonham Carter was Superintendent of.

The School of Nursing took over the premises of Harcourt Nursing Home in 1953 when the Preliminary Training School at New Hall, Bodenham was closed. New classrooms were built in the gardens facing Mill Road in 1961.
