Florence's lantern
Florence 200ArtCare have set up a new lantern installation in Rod’s Place, the quiet Star’s Appeal garden, at Salisbury District Hospital. Created as a commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth and International Nurses Day 2020 on May 12th.
We had a bright sunny day installing the artwork, however there was a strong breeze blowing through the garden so we needed to make sure we used strong materials to be suitable for outside in all weathers. Large scale design was also needed in this big public courtyard. Bright colours were chosen, not just as a modern rethink of the lantern design, but also to stand out amongst the planting as the area can be viewed from the hospital wards and corridors too.
We added solar lights to add an extra dimension to the work and best of all is how these lanterns now look in the evenings. This provides a colourful distraction and staff are able to enjoy these garden spaces now whenever they get a break.
