Oddie the octopus
Oddie the mascot
By 1973 the logo and idea of an octopus for Radio Odstock had already taken hold, but didn’t have a name. Peter Foyle, close friend of Paul Mullins, did all the artwork in the 70s and 80s including the designs of the Carnival floats. In the winter of 1975 a Christmas card was sent to all the children with a dot-to-dot puzzle of the octopus along with a prize for the best name. ‘Oddie’ was chosen and he was given a christening party attended by Pauline Waters who came up with the name. Roy Castle, Record Breakers TV presenter, helped judge the competition with Cliff Richard and announced the news on air.
