Baby ‘boom!’

An interesting story from our Salisbury Journal news clippings collected in our archive. On 20th August 1992 the Journal reported on the German air raid over Salisbury that had taken place 50 years previously, on Friday 14th August. The event was remembered by the heavily pregnant Salisbury resident, Mrs Fielder. She was walking near the Infirmary and recalled, ‘He was mighty low. I was so surprised to see a swastika on the tail and two crosses on the wings.’ Two British soldiers pulled her into the shelter of the toilets near the bridge and she returned home safely later. Her daughter was born three days later.
