Jeanne Yates recalls memories of Odstock
Jeanne Yates, pictured above, was the Theatre Superintendent who oversaw the new pioneering four-theatre unit at Odstock Hospital in 1966. Her story is featured in the science and technology lift artwork – one of six lifts at Salisbury Hospital featuring ‘time travelling’ artworks. Fifty years on Jeanne was one of the first visitors to see the new history lift interiors. Jeanne recalled how surgery was transformed at Salisbury Hospital after World War 2 with the use of innovative and new technology. She also told us about her involvement in an ‘unusual first’ – assisting Dr Laing performing a life-saving cleft lip and palate operation on a nine-week-old horse!
